How to Add Video to an eBay Listing
eBay blocks iframes and JavaScript in listing descriptions, which means standard video embeds do not work. This guide shows you how to use the image-link method to get a clickable video thumbnail into your eBay listing.
Step by Step
Follow These Steps
Create an eCommercePlayer account
Go to ecommerceplayer.com and click "Create Free Account." The free plan includes 5 media clips, which is enough to try it out. You can upgrade later if you need more.
Upload your product video
From your dashboard, go to Media and click Upload. Drag and drop your video file or browse to select it. eCommercePlayer accepts MP4, AVI, WMV, MOV, MKV, MPG, and more. The file is automatically converted to HTML5 MP4.
Wait for encoding to complete
After uploading, your video enters the encoding queue. Premium members get priority encoding. You will see the status change from "Processing" to "Ready" when your video is available. This usually takes a few minutes.
Create a player
Go to Players and click "Create New Player." Give it a name (for your reference only, buyers do not see this). Add your video clip to the player. You can add multiple clips to create a playlist.
Publish with the image-link method
Go to the Publish page for your player. Select "Image Link" as the sharing method. This generates an HTML snippet that shows a thumbnail image of your video. When a buyer clicks it, your player opens in a new tab.
Copy the HTML code
Click the copy button to copy the image-link HTML to your clipboard. The code looks like a standard anchor tag wrapping an image tag.
Paste into your eBay listing
In the eBay listing editor, go to the Item Description section. Switch to the HTML editor (look for "HTML" or "Source" tab). Paste the code where you want the video thumbnail to appear. Save your listing.
Preview and verify
Preview your eBay listing. You should see a video thumbnail in your description. Click it to confirm it opens your player in a new tab and the video plays correctly.
Tips
Best Practices
Make the most of your media with these tips.
Use a descriptive thumbnail
The thumbnail is automatically generated from your video. Make sure the video starts with a clear shot of your product so the thumbnail is recognizable and inviting.
Keep videos under 2 minutes
Buyers are browsing quickly. A 60-90 second product video that covers all the important details is more effective than a long, unfocused clip.
Place the video early in the description
Position the video thumbnail near the top of your eBay description so buyers see it before scrolling. The higher the placement, the more clicks it gets.
Test on mobile
Most eBay traffic is on mobile devices. Preview your listing on a phone to make sure the thumbnail and player work well on smaller screens.
